Small Voice is operated by Small Voice Inc., a company incorporated in British Columbia, Canada (incorporation number BC1603266).


We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your data when you use Small Voice.


Sensitive information


Small Voice is a Christian spiritual formation app. What you write in it reveals your religious beliefs, and often other sensitive things about your life.


Information about religious belief is treated as a special category of personal data under privacy law in several countries. We collect and process it only because you have chosen to use an app whose entire purpose is to help you write to God, and only to provide that service to you. You can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your account.


We do not use your entries for advertising, and we do not sell them. We do not share them with anyone except the service providers listed below, who process them on our instructions in order to run the app.


What we collect


Information you give us

  • Journal entries and anything else you write in the app

  • Photographs you add to entries

  • Account information — email address and username

  • Preferences you set, including faith-related preferences that shape what the app shows you

  • Approximate location, if you allow it, used to make imagery reflect where you live


Information collected automatically

  • Usage data — how you interact with the app and which features you use

  • Device information — device type and operating system

  • Technical data — IP address, crash reports, and performance analytics


How we use it


  • To generate material written specifically for you — responses to your entries, Scripture, images, and observations about your journey

  • To read back over your writing in the background so that material can reflect what you have written over time

  • To operate, maintain, and improve the app

  • To send you important updates about the service

  • To answer you when you contact support


We do not use your journal entries to train AI models, and we do not permit our providers to.


Who we share it with


We do not sell your personal information.


We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, only to run the app:


  • OpenAI — generates the text the app writes for you. Your journal entries and related content are sent for processing.

  • Replicate — generates images. Image prompts derived from your entries are sent for processing.

  • ElevenLabs — generates audio. Text scripts derived from your entries are sent for processing.

  • Pinecone — makes your writing searchable by meaning. Your entries and data derived from them are stored there.

  • Algolia — makes your writing searchable by keyword. Your entries are stored there.

  • Bubble — hosts the app and its database. All account data is stored there.



None of these providers use your entries to train their own models.


We may also disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to protect our rights or the safety of our users. If Small Voice is ever acquired or merged, we will tell users before any data is transferred.


How long we keep it


Journal entries, generated material, and account information are kept for as long as your account is open. Nothing you write is deleted automatically or expires on a timer.


When you delete your account, we delete your profile, your entries, and the material generated from them. Some information may remain for a limited period afterwards: in routine encrypted backups until those expire on their normal cycle, and in records we are required to keep by law, such as billing and tax records. We do not use anything retained this way for any other purpose.


Usage analytics are anonymised after a year.


Your rights


You can:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you

  • Correct information that is wrong

  • Export your journal and generated material

  • Delete your account and its data

  • Withdraw consent to our processing of your entries, by deleting your account

  • Opt out of non-essential communications


Delete your account in the app. You can also make any of these requests, including deletion, by writing to support@smallvoice.app. We will respond within 30 days.


If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in Canada, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.


Security


We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, limited access by authorised personnel only, and storage with reputable cloud providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously and act quickly if something goes wrong.


Children


Small Voice is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission to use the app.


International transfers


Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, where several of our service providers operate. We put appropriate safeguards in place for these transfers.


Changes


We may update this policy from time to time. We will tell you about significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of Small Voice after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
